APA PUNYA JIRAN!!!!!!

28 Disembaer 2013.

Mana jiran jiran saya? Tak ada siapa yang peduli. Anggota bomba pun sedar! Inilah sikap orang bandar!. Haram langsung pun tak nak ambil tahu! Kalau ada kematian, rasaya tak ada yang melawat pun!!!

BREAKFAST AT MRR2 - KG PASIR, HULU KELANG

This is a place where I want to have my roti canai fix. The place is next to the MRR2  (Kampung Pasir, Hulu Kelang). You can't miss it. A lot of cars parked at the roadside. Its been here long but the elders of Kampung Pasir told me the previous operator's food was much better! Well, this one is good enough for me.

ROTI CANAI                  KUAH DHALL/PARPU              KARI IKAN
Its a must try for any roti canai lovers. Its soft, bit greasy and tasty. The curries' are just great!!

Then, there's the nasi lemak! Many may think about Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa or Nasi Lemak Tanglin but I prefer the ones here. Can't describe them just come and try.

 nasi lemak with rendang daging
nasi lemak with sambal sotong

creamy tea/teh tarik
Welcome to try this place!

PUSAT PENJAJA TAMAN SETIAWANGSA

Many would have been to this place, sitting in front of SK Taman Setiawangsa. But I will be focusing only on few stalls, the stalls that I have been patronizing since the 1990s. Previously, these stalls were located next to Taman Setiawangsa's football field. They have shifted to a better place but it lacked the old environment. I guess its because there's too many stalls here and were not as friendly as before.
I sincerely hope they are doing well.

KAMPUNG BARU FOOD STALL - GREAT MALAY FOOD

I have been staying in Kuala Lumpur for more than 20 years but seldom do I come to this side of KL. But since my son got into SMK Aminuddin Baki, we (my family and myself) come here almost once a month.

If you indulge in good Malay food, this is the place to come. The stalls may not be nice and cosy but the food is something else. Just try and you'll enjoy them. And the price is still cheap.

POPIA ZAITON - SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE

11 NOVEMBER 2013.  13 days since POPIA ZAITON is back in Taman Melawati. I bumped into his truck while I was sending my daughter for her tuition class. For the past 12 days, I have visited this joint 4 times! SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE.
Actually, I have been indulging myself with this popia since the 1990s. Owner, Kassim has been running his stall here before moving to Taman Greenwood. I did not follow him there but I could find him at Taman Melawati Ramadhan's Bazaar each year. The queue was always  long.
The popia is simple, and I will not divulge whats in it. Just try. The sauce is AWESOME. This is a a testimony from a person who has been eating POPIA for at least 40 years. The closest that tasted similar to this was the one I ate in Penang some 30+ years ago! Sorry POPIA NADIA, you don't come close!!!

HARRODS CAFE

FRIDAY night 8 November 2013. Took my wife and 2 of my kids out for dinner at KLCC. Diverted into KLCC as the MRR2 congestion was bad. Since we had no plans to eat at any specific outlet, we ended up at Harrods Cafe. Didn't expect any crowd as its not a hot food eatery. More of a sandwich bar.
Been here before, early Febuary.

photos from Febuary 2013.
Just like any other English sandwich bar, there's an array of cold meat and condiments. BUT, hardly any choices of bread. Lack of cheese variety was a huge surprised. Was expecting more than this or even better than BENS.
Had basket of bread, which was hard. Reheated, I guess. Probably the leftovers from morning session.
But the rest of the food was okay. No complaints there. Burger was juicy.

The sandwiches was stuffed with lot of fillings. Just nice.

The cakes are nice. Just right to go with any tea. Well, thats expected from english sandwich bar!

Worth trying.

MUSTAFA JONES BURGER - WORTH A TRY!

The first time I heard about this joint was in Febuary 2013. I was flipping thru the Malay Mail and found an articel about this outlet.

So, I decided to find the place, situated at the new Taman Melawati shops.
You will find the place inside Restoran Kayu Manis.
The food:
Since Mustafa Jones is African- American, the cooking is very southern style. Smoked, BBQ, and grilled meat. I tried the BBQ Ribs. Tender, well done and the the smokiness in the sauce made it so special.
The burger was great. Juicy, freshness in the beef and you get a well done meat when you ask one.  EXCELLENT!

During fasting month of Ramadhan 2013, I visited his stall in Wangsa Melawati. The quality was maintained and you just love the burgers! Pricing of Mustafa Burgers are reasonable, comparable to those Burger Bakars!
The man himself: MUSTAFA JONES

RESTORAN HOI YIN - TELUK CEMPEDAK

I have been to Kuantan since 1991 but never had I stepped into this outlet. Then, I saw "Best In the World" ran a review on this restaurant.  I decided to visit the place on the 2nd day Hari Raya Aidil Fitri (9 August 2013).
Surprisingly, the shop was full. Even Malays are there despite having just celebrated Hari Raya a day before. Well, maybe some of us wanted to try something different.

Its a typical Chinese food stall. The stools and tables are from yesteryears. The place is so crowded that the owners had no time to entertain any customers. Just leave the food and clean the tables. Can't blame them.
I had Mee Kari. I was hoping that it would something out of this world. Unfortunately, I had my hopes too high. I had tasted better Chinese Mee Kari. Berjaya Restoran in Bangsar, Kedai Mee Goreng Tanglin or Gerai Ah Kow in Kampung Baru may serve different style of Mee Kari but all had their's uummpphhhh! Sorry, its just not there. The mee was overcooked, the curry was just too bland.

But, no harm trying. Maybe someone may find something different from the food in Kuantan

CUPCAKE CHAPTER

This outlet is among the latest western joints invading Hulu Kelang area. Its next to MRR2, opposite the the Zoo Negara.
Worth trying? Yes and No. Have been here few times and the services had spiral down very fast! Food remains good but when waiters keep missing your orders then there is something wrong with the management.

The prices here is expensive but the serving is large. Just 5 out of 10.
